The last Yankees team to finish last.
The last Yankees team to finish last.

GAME 120: There’s plenty of time to get it done, and the Yankees are streaking in the right direction. And like my bookie sez — never bet against the streak. If you’re wondering, the Yanks have finished in last place only 5 times in their glorious history, and one of those came in 1902 when the club was still under the ‘Highlanders‘ brand. The others came in 1908, 1912, 1966, and 1990.

Closer to Last Place Than First

The hapless New York offense stumbled into Tampa with no spark, no rage, and no answer for Ray’s starter Alex Cobb. Granted, when Cobb is on he is a handful for even a hot-htting team. He didn’t have to worry about that tonight.
Brandon McCarthy turned in another solid start, but pretty much had to throw a no-no for his team to have a chance.
Here’s the box score and Bryan Hoch‘s recap (mlb.com).
MEMORY LANE: One year ago today on August 15th, 2013,The New York Yankees signed Mark Reynolds as a free agent. The club didn’t re-sign the utility infielder in 2014, as Reynolds is enjoying a pennant chase in the NL Central with the Milwaukee Brewers, slugging 21 HRs to date…
And a Happy 48th Birthday to Scott Brosius!
