Game 21 : The good news: New York jumped on Rays stater Jake Odorizzi for 2 runs in the first, which stood up as the margin of victory in a 4-2 win. Brian McCann continued heating up with a 3 RBI night. It was the Yankees 10th win in their last 12 games, which includes all five contests against the Jays.
The bad news: the revelation that Masahiro Tanaka will be placed on the 15-Day DL, which will keep him sidelined for about a month according to GM Brian Cashman‘s projection. (see below).

- McCanned Heat Brian McCann is heating up and it’s a welcome sight. The go-ahead home run last night, and a huge 2-run double tonight, continuing his career ownage of Odorizzi — 10-15, including 2 homers, 3 doubles and 1 triple.
- Esmil Rogers Money! Still nice to know Rogers was given up on by a division rival (Toronto) — and turns into an innings-eating, clutch weapon out of the pen, unfazed by any situation Girardi calls on him for.
- Jacoby Ellsbury A 3-4 night, 2 runs scored and terror on the base paths…
- Chase Whitley Recalled today for his first start of the 2015 season, Whitley wasn’t dominant, but pitched his way nicely out of a few rough patches. Over 5 innings, the Alabama native scattered 6 hits, allowed 1 earned, and recorded 5 strikeouts.
- Congrats, Chris Martin! First career save!

- Tanaka News Initial reports are ace Masahiro Tanaka is head to the 15-Day DL with ‘a Grade 1 strain of his right forearm and tendinitis in his right wrist’. Cashman indicated it could be “a precursor to Tommy John surgery”, but also said he’ll be re-evaluated over the next few weeks.. Chase Whitley could take Tanaka’s place in the rotation, while Chris Capuano is close to returning, and Brian Mitchell‘s name as been mentioned, as well.
“Nothing really big came out from the MRI or anything, so I feel that I can come back strong,” Tanaka said through an interpreter… “It has nothing to do with my elbow, so that’s something that’s out of the question for me.”
