GAME 3

: Gotta admit — the thought of this being a ‘must win’ game, even though there’s 159 more to go, did cross my feeble mind for a fleeting second. Until Ichiro got it going in the 3rd, that thought was creeping back in my noggin. Flashed on it being September, and thinking “%$@!&, if we didn’t blow the opening series in Houston, we wouldn’t be in this position now”. Thanks to timely contributions from the old guys and the kids, I only have to obsess about 2 games at a later date, not 3.
AT THE PLATE : Ichiro and Yangervis Solarte did the heavy lifting, combining for 5 of the team’s 7 hits, while Gardy, The Captain and Beltran added an RBI each.
ON THE MOUND : Ivan ‘Super’ Nova wasn’t super sharp, but kept the ball in the pint-sized park, and induced 4 timely double-play balls. 5 2/3, good enough for the W. Adam Warren and Shawn Kelly looked great out of the pen, taking it from Nova to the 9th drama-free. In his first post-Mo save opportunity, David Robertson did a perfect impression of the legend with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Here’s the box score from mlb.com. And recaps from Long Island’s Newsday, and  The Houston Chronicle.
NEXT UP : Tomorrow Yanks invade Canuckistan — and getting to their hotel in Toronto around 5:00AM EST. Thanks, you mooks in MLB scheduling!  Masahiro Tanaka gets the ball. Can’t wait…
