Stephen Drew's pinch-hit grand slam helps NY edge BALT on April 13, 2015

Game 7 : On a 3-1 count, pinch hitter Stephen Drew turned on a 95mph two-seam fastball from Baltimore reliever Tommy Hunter and parked it in the right center field seats for a go-ahead grand slam in the top of the 7th, and Yankee pitching made it hold up. Here’s the box score.

The Good

  • Michael Pineda. A few location mistakes in a hitter’s park, but 9 strikeouts against a very good hitting club. 98 pitches, 68 strikes. ERA took a beating, but he’ll recover from that soon enough. If he stays off the DL, he’s money down the stretch — and ‘ace’ if Tanaka goes under the knife.
  • Stephen Drew. How do you do! It’s starting to look like it was worth the wait.
  • John Ryan Murphy. Huge effort behind the plate, gunning down 2 potential base thieves.
  • Second comeback win so far — not bad when the win total is three. This squad is showing heart. The game ain’t necessarily over anymore when we’re down by 2 runs.
  • Andrew Miller. Clutch 5-out save. Smoked 10 cigarettes, but that’s my problem.

The Bad

  • Dellin Betances. The 2014 All-Star had a rough Spring training, and is still not on track yet. Coach him up, Larry!

The Ugly

  • With a feel-good ‘W’ like this, nothing to see here, please move along…
