Carlos Beltran was named American League Player of The Week, the 10th time he has won a POTW honor… as other topics of discussion around the team focused on bench strength, and the need for a solid utility man for the infield. Some in the media have suggested it’s time for the Yankees to open the checkbook and sign former Red Sox Stephen Drew, who is still team-less at this writing. The Yanks have met tomorrow’s opponent The Chicago Cubs in modern inter-league action 9 times, with series in 2003, 2005 and 2011. The Yanks have a 6-3 record. Their previous match-up was in the 1932 World Series, where the Bronx Bombers swept the Cubbies, 4-0, out-scoring them 37-19, and featuring Babe Ruth‘s legendary ‘called shot’ home run.
