The past, present and future of the greatest franchise in the history of professional sports.

Carlos Beltran lines a solo home run to right field, his first of 2015, to get the Yankees on the board and tie the game at 1 on May 10, 2015 at Yankee Stadium

Game 32 : It was a mound performance not seen in the new Yankee Stadium. 16 strikeouts in only 7 innings. 111 pitches. 81 strikes. It was the pitch count itself that prevented Michael Pineda from a chance at busting the team record of 18, set by Ron Guidry against the then-California Angels in 1978. Big Mike did tie the single game strikeout record by a Yankee right-hander, matching David Cone‘s total of 16 against Detroit in 1997.

Here’s the box score, full recap, and video highlights.

  • Big Mike   ‘Natch. One for the ages from the man every Yankee fan with patience knew this day was coming, and are expecting more to come.

“His stuff today was electric. Almost every time he takes the ball, it is.” ‐ catcher Brian McCann  (Hat tip: mlb.com)

  • Carlos Beltran   Off the scheid! Beltran clocked his first home run of the 2015 season. Over the past week or so, he been’s banging balls off the outfield fence that were missing by a few feet. If he gets his swing on, the current stretch of good baseball by the Yankees can continue. Starting in right field today, Beltran went 2-2 with 2 walks, and the booming home run off Orioles starter Bud Norris in the 4th inning. That tied the score at 1, and set the tone for the 4-run frame that was all Pineda needed.

  • Brian McCann   Another Yankee Stadium home run for the starting catcher! The batting average isn’t there yet, but the timely hits are starting to come.
  • Didi Gregorius   His confidence is starting to take hold. Nice effort today, going 2-3 with 2 RB, with solid glove work.

FOOTNOTES : Coming into today’s game Michael Pineda numbers include 38 strikeouts and only 3 walks, and a perfect 5-0 record versus Baltimore — and he left with 54 strikeouts, still 3 walks, and a perfect 6-0 log against the Birds … Core Four stud and fan favorite Jorge Posada was in the YES booth as the launch of his book hits the streets.
