GAME 108: ‘New look Yanks?’ Please. They still can’t hit. It’s that simple. While no reasoning mind expected a sudden offensive surge from the last-minute trade deadline moves, the storyline comes back to what has stymied the Yankess all season. The same punchless offensive. Yet another lifeless, one-run loss that should have been in the win column. This time it was in Boston, with a 4-3 final.
Sure, it got interesting in the 8th with Derek Jeter‘s shot over the Green Monster, but that should have been a tack-on run. The Yankees were 2-9 with RISP. Against a AAA-team, Papi and Pedroia aside, and maybe Napoli. And against a kid making his major league mound debut, to boot.
Chris Capuano took a loss he didn’t deserve, and one rough inning was enough to seal it. Carlos Beltran did his part, but few others delivered in crunch time. Here’s the box score and recap.

MEMORY LANE: On August 1st, 1925, Yankees traded players to be named later and $50,000 to Salt Lake City (Pacific Coast League) for Tony Lazzeri. New York sent Mack Hillis, Curt Fullerton and another unidentified player to Salt Lake City in 1926 to complete the trade.
On this date in 1993, Reggie Jackson is inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
August 1st, 1973, Thurman Munson and Carlton Fisk brawl at Fenway. With a 2-2 score in the top of the ninth, Munson, attempting to score from third base on a missed bunt, crashes into Fiskand they both come up swinging. Boston wins 3-2 in the bottom of the inning.
