Game 139 / 77-62 / 2nd / -2.5GB : Not the best time for Luis Severino to turn in a bad start. Lifted after 71 pitches in 2.1 innings, the rookie right-hander was torched for 2 home runs, and 6 earned. It didn’t matter who toed the rubber after that, as the powerful Blue Jays hammered New York pitching at will.
After Jays’ starter David Price was pulled after 5 innings and a 9-2 lead, Didi Gregorius made it interesting with a 3-run rocket into the right field seats in the 6th, closing the gap to 9-5. A Russell Martin 2-shot (his second of the game) in the 7th put New York down 6 runs again, 11-5.

- Now It’s Official In what was no surprise to anyone, it was announced today that Mark Teixeira is officially done for the 2015 season. The latest MRI revealed a fracture in his right shin, which requires a three-month recovery, putting him on track for a return by Spring Training 2016. After fouling a pitch off his right leg against the Twins on August 17th, Tex has been through the gamut. Day-to-day, on crutches, on the DL, then finally the dreaded news. His injury was a major blow to the Yankees. Tex was hitting .257/.359/.553 with 31 homers and 79 RBI. If he’s in the lineup everyday since that night, no way the Yankees are looking up at Toronto in the standings.
- Shreve Shakey. Again. After months of stellar work out of the bullpen, Chasen Shreve seems to be running out of magic. The lefty surrendered the deciding home run to Chris Davis in the 2-1 loss to Baltimore on Wednesday, and laid one over the plate for Russell Martin tonight, right after Didi’s 3-run shot gave the Yankees a sliver of hope.
- Golden Sombrero A-Rod struck out 4 times, his first sombrero in 7 years.
- Double Jeopardy Tonight’s loss dropped the Yanks 2.5 games in the division, and a game shaved off of their lead in the Wild Card race, now +3.5 games.
- Where Is Everybody? Tonight’s announced attendance of just over 40,000 was 9,000+ short of a sell out. In the most important September series in at least 3 years? Really?
- Saturday TV Schedule The first game will air on FOX (12:30PM EST/9:30AM Pacific), the second game on YES — 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
