Andrew Cashner ($6,900) vs The Yankees

Baltimore inked the free-agent righty, previously of the Texas Rangers, to a two-year/$16M deal in February of this year. His arsenal features a strong sinker mixed in with a four-seam fastball, both hitting the gun in the low 90MPH range. Cashner also includes a rarely used cutter and a changeup, both in the mid-80s.
What may bode well for stacking the Yankees’ three-headed monster (Judge, Stanton and Sanchez) is that both of Cashner’s money-maker pitches result in higher than league average fly balls. Get your trigonometry calculator out. YankeeStadium + MonsterMashing + FlyballPitcher = YouKnowWhat. But — that belies Cashner’s 1.point.something ERA against the Yankees over a recent stretch. I’m leaning towards ‘that was then, this in now’. This is a different Yankee team. A different Yankee vibe.
Here’s who to consider drafting (or not) in the Yankees lineup against Andrew Cashner:
- Didi Gregorius ($9,600) : While *all* of the pitcher vs hitter sample sizes involving Cashner and the Yankees are miniscule, Didi is the only Yankee on the current roster to take Cashner deep (once), while going 4-16 (.250) with 2 doubles.
Masahiro Tanaka ($16,300) vs Baltimore Orioles

There are four guys on the O’s current roster who have seen Tanaka a minimum of 20 ABs — Crush Davis, Adam Jones, Jonathan Schoop and Manny Machado. While Jones has the best numbers (7-21 / .333 / 1 HR), I’d be more worried about second baseman Schoop, who is crazy hot right now.
