Yanks Turn to Tanaka to Stop Skid

After last night’s maddening loss to Tampa in 14 innings, which knocked the Yankees out of first place in the American League East, the club looks to Masahiro Tanaka (3-0) to right the ship. It will be Tanaka’s first look at the Rays, but here’s the worrisome part: another unknown pitcher facing the Yanks. Tampa’s Jake Odorizzi is 1-3, 6.85 but few of the Yankees have faced him before. Not encouraging.
Here’s the lineup:
Jacoby Ellsbury (CF)
Brett Gardner (LF)
Mark Teixeira (1B)
Brian McCann (C)
Alfonso Soriano (DH)
Kelly Johnson (3B)
Brian Roberts (2B)
Ichiro Suzuki (RF)
Yangervis Solarte (SS)
Masahiro Tanaka (P)
PREGAME NOTES: Captain Derek Jeter gets the day off following last night’s near 6-hour marathon … Alfredo Aceves is back! Chris Leroux, who had a rough debut last night, got whacked (DFA)…
