Game 8 : With a chance to even their record and clinch their first series win of the young season, the Yankees dropped what appeared a very winnable game to the Orioles.
Game 8 Notes
The Good
- Not exactly a quality start by CC, but it could have been much worse. He did register 7 strikeouts in 7 innings of work, but his defense and pitch location at times kept you on the edge of your seat.
- Nice inning of relief in the 8th by Chris Martin, a 1-2-3 frame on 11 pitches, striking out 2.
The Bad
- RISP — 1 for 8 tonight. 9 LOB overall. The measure of importance for this stat is revealed in opponent Baltimore’s numbers: RISP 1-5, LOB 13. A few clutch hits for either team, and it’s a New York win or a Baltimore blowout.
- TERRIBLE AB’s : Brian McCann (.227), Didi Gregoruis (.154) and Garret Jones (.154). Carlos Beltran is at .156 but his swings are improving. Luck of the draw usually has one of them up in a possible game changing situation, and they are not getting it done.
- DEFENSE : Two more errors tonight (Sabathia and Gregorius).
The Ugly
- Other than the frustration with the lack of clutch hitting,
