TODAY’S GAME : Without question the Halos indeed have some good hitting, as putting up an 11-spot last night demonstrated, so it’s going to take some good pitching to stop that. And stopping Mike Trout would be a good place to start.
The sample size in their matchups is small (10 ABs), with Trout having 4 singles and 2 walks against Tanaka. But the righty hurler is closing out a month of May he’d like to forget — pitching to a 5.91 ERA with 14 earned runs and 20 hits allowed over 21 innings. He’s giving up the long ball again, and that has to stop.

Coming on the heels of Sonny Gray’s terrible outing yesterday, the club needs a standout performance from Tanaka today, and we’re thinking he comes through. With an almost bargain-basement salary of $6,700 (on Draft Kings), that’s hard to pass up for a ‘value’ pick.
We also like Gerrit Cole ($11,600) on the road against Cleveland, and the Philles’ Nick Pivetta ($9,600) at home against Toronto if your lineup gets in a cash crunch.

Manager Aaron Boone is giving Gleyer Torres the day off today, as Neil Walker ($3,700) will start at second base — although Draft Kings has him slotted at first base today, along with Greg Bird ($3,900) (who will play first according to the official lineup). I’m giving Bird a few more games under his belt at the big league level before giving him stronger consideration.
One thing to keep in mind for today’s Yankee game is the fact the Angels’ starter Garrett Richards is tough on left-handed hitters, and improving in quality starts as the season progresses. He does pitch better on the road (the Yankees torched him in Anaheim on April 28th, knocking him out of the box after 1.2 innings.) With the Bombers in a mini-funk, we’d look for quality ABs today from Gardy, Walker, Aaron Judge (he’s due!) and Miguel Andujar.
Don’t look now but Houston’s Jose Altuve is heating up big time after a relatively quiet start to the season, hitting ,400 over his last 7 games with 6 RBI and 4 stolen bases.

Put This in Your Back Pocket

Who is mashing left-handed pitching these days? Chris Bryant (CHI), Christian Villanueva (SD), our own Giancarlo Stanton and Yan Gomes (CLE).

Looking for a secret weapon? This one won’t be secret too much longer. Pittsburgh Pirates OF Austin Meadows has been killin’ it over the past week (.478 with 3 home runs, a triple and 5 RBI. The 23-year-old rookie throws and bats left, and struck out only twice in 30 ABs so far. Keep your eye on this Atlanta native!
Look for an update to this post prior to the 1:05pm (EST) starts. Good luck with your lineups and hope this helps! And let’s go Yankees!
