Press Release | The New York Yankees today announced the club’s 2016 spring training schedule, featuring a total of 33 exhibition games with 16 home games at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
The Yankees will play their first spring game on March 2 at 1:05 p.m. vs. the Tigers in Tampa.
Home opponents include each of the Yankees’ four American League East rivals – Boston (March 5 at 1:05 p.m.), Toronto (March 10 at 1:05 p.m. and March 16 at 6:35 p.m.), Baltimore (March 11 at 1:05 p.m. and March 18 at 6:35 p.m.) and Tampa Bay (March 24 at 6:35 p.m.). The Yankees are scheduled to play five night games at Steinbrenner Field, with each set to begin at 6:35 p.m. – March 16 vs. Toronto, March 18 vs. Baltimore, March 22 vs. the Mets, March 24 vs. Tampa Bay and March 29 vs. Pittsburgh.

The spring slate will conclude with two games against the Marlins at Marlins Park in Miami, the first at 7:05 p.m. on April 1 and the second at 1:05 p.m. on April 2.
Season tickets for 2016 Yankees Spring Training home games are now on sale at www.steinbrennerfield.com or www.yankees.com/spring. Individual-game spring tickets will go on sale on Friday, January 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the Steinbrenner Field box office, online at www.yankees.com or by calling Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000.

Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to spring training on February 18, and hold their first workout on February 19. Position players are scheduled to report on February 24. The club’s first full-squad workout is scheduled for February 25.
This will be the Yankees’ 21st spring training at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. The complex was renamed for the Yankees’ longtime Principal Owner on March 27, 2008, following two unanimous resolutions supporting the change issued by the Hillsborough County Commission and the Tampa City Council. The resolutions cited Mr. Steinbrenner’s many charitable donations to youth activities, hospitals and the arts, and recognized his numerous extraordinary contributions to the area.

The club finished 98–55, good enough for their first American League pennant. The Yankees shared the Polo Grounds with the New York Giants that season, and faced them in the World Series, losing 5 games to 3. In the regular season, outfielder Babe Ruth hit 59 homers, while Carl Mays led the pitching staff with a 27-9. 3.05 ERA record.
