Ellsbury Blasts First Home Run
GAME 27: Once again, the unknown becomes an undoing. What is it about the New York Yankees when it comes to an unknown rookie pitcher? Especially a lefty. Over probably the last 15 seasons — no matter who comes and goes in the lineup — the Yank’s offense goes south when facing one. Do they think they’re standing in against Sandy Koufax or Cy Young?
Tonight’s phenom was Roenis Elias, a 25 year-old from Guantanamo, Cuba making his 6th career start for the Seattle Mariners. Elias struck out 10 and scattered 6 hits over 7 innings, with Jacoby Ellsbury‘s first home run in pinstripes and a Brian McCann‘s RBI single the only damage the Yank’s could muster.
Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda, while struggling each inning, turned in a quality start striking out 7 and allowing 3ER over 6. Once again, Kuroda was not provided with serious run support.
GAMEDAY  NOTES: A crowd of 40,000 plus got their chance to razz Robbie Cano and continued the showering of boos the Seattle second baseman endured in Tuesday night’s game … Ichiro Suzuki‘s pinch hit single in the 9th raised his team-leading BA to .372 … Last night’s rain-out allowed the Yankees to miss facing King Felix (Hernandez), and the game has been rescheduled for June 2nd ….
Here’s the box score, and recaps from New York and Seattle.
