Stephen Drew belts solo home runs in both the 7th and the 9th innings for the Yankees on June 21, 2015 at Yankee Stadium

Game 69 | 38-31, 1st : The Detroit Tigers teed off on Yankees pitching today, starting with New York ace Masahiro Tanaka. Nothing else to read here, please move along.

Here’s the box score, full recap, and video highlights.

Tigers 12, Yankees 4

  • Stephen Drew   The only bright spot in a terrible game was Drew’s two home runs.

  • Masahiro Tanaka   As he said himself afterwards, the ace had nothing today. The inability to locate left him in bad counts and his out pitch was being hit out — of the park that is.

“I’m just going to go back to it — Felix Hernandez gave up eight runs in a third of an inning. These are human beings that go out there. Some days they just don’t have it. A lot of times we try to make too much out of it. He didn’t have it today and they made him pay. He’ll get back on track.” ‐ Joe Girardi  (h/t: Grace Raynor / MLB.com)
