Mark Teixeira hits two solo home runs and makes a pair of great defensive plays to help lead the Yankees to a 5-4 win at Yankee Stadium on July 8, 2015

Game 84 | 45-39, 1st : Stephen Drew hit the eventual game-winning home run, but Mark Teixeira carried the Yankees with both his bat and glove. Tex had his 39th career two-homer game and saved New York’s bacon more than once with his glove.

Here’s the box score, full recap, and video highlights.

Yankees 5, A’s 4

  • Mark Teixeira   Here’s Tex’s unassisted double play. His two homers brings his American League-leading RBI total to 61.
  • “I enjoyed the win the most. If you have a night like that and you lose, it doesn’t mean much. Hitting two home runs is always nice. It’s not easy to hit home runs, so getting two against a tough team is fun.” ‐ Mark Teixeira  (h/t: Jane Lee, Bryan Hoch/mlb.com)

  • CC Sabathia   The Big Man was getting torched with some hard hit balls by the A’s but worked through the early command issues to pitch into the 6th inning for his first win at Yankee Stadium in a long time.
  • Andrew Miller   A little rusty in his first appearance since coming of the DL, Miller allowed a 2 run homer to Marcus Semien in the 9th, but settled down to close it out for his 18th save of the season.
