Game 142 / 78-64 / 2nd / -3.5GB : Just about to be counted out for the division crown, Masahiro Tanaka got the Yankees off the canvas and gave them a puncher’s chance for the remaining 20 games. The ace tossed 7 shutdown innings, striking out 7 and not allowing a walk. Dellin Betances, James Pazos and Kent Cotham got the last 6 outs, as Dustin Ackley led the offense with a 2-run shot off R.A. Dickey. The win closed the gap to 3.5 games behind the Jays, with three head to head games left.
