Mark Teixeira's RBI Double vs Baltimore on July 12, 2014
Mark Teixeira’s RBI Double

GAME 93: So, the Yankees have no help in the minors, huh? Tell that to Shane Greene, or better yet the powerful Baltimore Orioles lineup.
The right-handed Greene, who began last season in A-Ball, turned in his second spectacular start in as many outings, handcuffing the Birds for 7.1 innings of shutout pitching. The rookie took a no-no into the 5th inning again, as he did in his first start.
On the offensive side, Mark Teixeira, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Derek Jeter each knocked in runs.
The win moves the Yanks 4 games behind Baltimore, one game over .500 (47-46), and the club also gained ground on second place Toronto. They are now 1 game behind the Jays, and tied in the loss column.
Here’s the box score and recap.

On July 12, 1949, major league baseball owners agree to install warning tracks made of cinder in front of outfield fences prior to the start of next season. The origin of the concept is credited to Yankee Stadium, where an actual running track, used in the ballpark’s track and field events, helped fielders know their proximity to the outfield fence when attempting to make a play. (Sources: Today in Baseball History, NationalPastime.com)
