Derek Jeter Moments: ‘The Flip’ Dirt Plaque
It was October 13th, 2001. A month after 9/11. Game 3 of the 2001 American League Division Series in Oakland. The A’s won the first two games of the best of five round in Yankee Stadium. Seventh inning. New York was down 0-2 in the series, and hanging on to a 1-0 lead in the seventh inning.
It’s been described as the probably the most iconic moment in the storied career of Derek Jeter. If you witnessed it live, you’ll never forget where you where. This writer was in a bar around 48th Street and 10th Avenue in Manhattan, but that’s another story.
The play was voted seventh in Baseball Weekly’s 10 Most Amazing Plays of all time.
