After Aaron Judge’s record-breaking day at the plate in yesterday’s make up game against the Royals, attention turns back to what’s left of the pennant race — and the Wild Card play-in game roster.
With New York four games behind the Red Sox with six to play, we’re talkin’ miracles here — but let’s play ’em out anyway and see what happens. If the Yankees survive the (likely opponent) Twins in the WC game, Jordan Montgomery’s performance today could help make up Joe Girardi’s mind about a lefty in the rotation — or in the pen for the ALDS. Jaime Garcia didn’t do himself any favors with a shaky outing in Toronto over the past weekend, so a spot could be Montgomery’s to lose.

Blake Snell vs The Yankees

Blake Snell ($6,300) : We wouldn’t put Snell in the ‘Yankee Killer’ column just yet, but he does pitch well against the pinstripes whether it’s at home or on the road. He’s yet to get past five innings against New York, and has not figured in the decision in all three of his starts so far. Snell has struck out 10 Yankee batters over 15 innings and allowed only four earned runs.
Here’s who to consider in today’s lineup.

  • Aaron Judge ($5,700) : A bargain at twice the price. Judge should be hard-wired into your DK app these days!
  • Gary Sanchez ($4,900) : Not a huge sample, but The Kracken holds his own against Snell (3-8, .375 with 2 home runs and a double.
  • Greg Bird ($3,200) : Bird is swinging a hot bat and the timing couldn’t be better for New York. He has not faced Snell yet this season, but he’d give Sandy Koufax a run for it this week. Once again, the price is right as well, as Bird continues to be a great value pick. UPDATE: Bird will not be in the starting lineup tonight, Matt Holliday will start and hit clean-up.

Jordan Montgomery vs The Tampa Bay Rays

Jordan Montgomery ($6,800) : Montgomery has had two starts against Tampa this season and didn’t exactly fare well in either. On July 30th at The Stadium he was knocked out of the box after 2.2 innings and four earned runs, although he struck out five.
Back on April 12th (also at home), he was removed after 4.2 innings and 89 pitches wile allowing two earned runs and striking out seven. With all sample sizes small against the Rays’ current lineup (no one has more than 4 ABs), we’ll look at some other metrics.
Here’s who Gumby needs to be careful with in the Rays lineup:

  • Wilson Ramos ($2,800) : The Rays’ right-handed hitting starting catcher is raking at .417, with 3 home runs and 10 RBI over his last seven games — and hitting .309 against lefties in 2017. Could be a great slealth pick at $2,800!
  • Evan Longoria ($3,300) : Also close to bargain basement prices is the Ray’s start third baseman — mostly because the numbers we’re used to seeing from Longoria are not there in 2017. That said, he is still a dangerous hitter and only Joey Bautista has hit more homers against the Yankees of all currently active players. Longoria has 35, Joey Bats 36.

Upon completion of today’s game, the Yankees have two more against the Tampa Bay Rays, then close the regular season out with three games against the Toronto Blue Jays at The Stadium.
THE FINE PRINT : The fantasy lineup suggestions are purely speculation and should not be taken as gospel. Anything can and will happen in a baseball game, but this content is designed to provide a starting point for your lineup research. Best of luck, and let’s go Yankees!
