Mark Teixeira puts the Yankees on the board in the 2nd with a long solo homer to left-center field on June 30, 2015

Game 78 | 41-37, T-2nd : Ivan Nova, in his second start since May of 2014, pitched in and out of trouble for 5.1 innings but kept New York in a game that seemed teetering on the edge of a big inning for the Angels more than once. The only problem was the usual problem for the Yankees’ offense — the unknown rookie pitcher. Tonight it was Andrew Heaney, who did his best imitation of Sandy Koufax holding New York batters to only 2 hits over 7 innings. The Angels’ pen continued the dominance, sealing the 2-1 victory. The only bright spot for New York was Mark Teixeira‘s solo blast from the right-side of the plate in the 2nd inning — one of the 2 Yankee hits.

Here’s the box score, full recap, and video highlights.

“What I’m most encouraged about is tonight we saw a preview of what that bullpen is going to be like for us the rest of the year, with Nova, and Warren, and those guys on the backside, Andrew [Miller]. I’m really optimistic about the rest of the year.” ‐ Alex Rodriguez  (h/t: ‘Nova, Warren have A-Rod feeling optimistic’ by Bryan Hoch / MLB.com)
