Gray Kicks Offs 10-Game, 3 City Trip Before The Break

The goal is to be in first place by the All-Star break, so it’s important Sonny Gray gets the road trip off to a good start. Without the benefit of playing Boston head-to-head between now and then, the Yanks are going to have to play some great baseball and hope for a little help.

Granted there is a long way to go, but there is something warm and fuzzy about being in first at the break, for nostalgic old cliches if nothing else. Besides, the Sawx might not be going anywhere for a while, so every game is critical.

The Sonny Gray Saga

The rap on Gray is that he can’t pitch at home, and for the most part the numbers are hard to argue. The good news about tonight’s start is that it’s both on the road for Sonny, AND in a park where he’s had consistent success.

I’m feeling good about Gray and ready to drop $6,800 Draft Kings dineros on him. The other pitcher in Classic mode I’ll be throwing in with is Dereck Rodriguez (Pudge’s son) out in San Francisco tonight against the Redbirds. The kid is money.

The is one batter in particular I’d be carful with — Yankee-killer Teoscar Hernandez. The young Toronto right-fielder has two hits in 8 at-bats against Gray, both long balls. Which he does with great consistency to most pitchers in Yankee uniforms.

Another Jay to thread with caution around is old friend Yangervis Solarte, who leads the team in home runs (16), runs scored (41) and RBI (48). Doesn’t really matter if Solarte is slumping or streaking, he usually turns it up a notch or two against his former team.

This will the second start for Gavviglio against the Yankees so far in 2018, and the first was a gem. On June 6th at The Stadium, he tossed 7 shutout innings, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 4.

Yankee Hitters

Until further notice I’d stay away from Aaron Judge on the road, and look at Giancarlo Stanton (at DH tonight). Aaron Hicks is also red-hot and worth consideration in the outfield.

Remember this is for speculation only, not meant to be taken as gospel. And don’t forget to double-check your lineup(s) just prior to game time as the weather may create havoc for you. We exist under the manta that “You can’t predict baseball” but it’s fun trying. Good luck with your lineup and let’s go Yankees!
