03292014floridaOver the long and brutal winter, Hot Stove League banter had the Yanks with shaky pitching and no infield. At least one of those concerns were answered under the skies of Florida over the past seven weeks. We have pitching. And a lot of it. The infield? We’ll patch-work it until the solutions become obvious. MLB Trade Rumors has some chatter about John Ryan Murphy and/or Austin Romine being shopped, possibly for another infielder.
Granted, we don’t have 30+ home runs from a third baseman, second baseman and maybe not from our first baseman. But pitching was the highlight of spring training — with pleasant surprises from everyone in both the rotation and the pen. The lone disappointment was Preston Claiborne, who heads back to Scranton to recapture the magic he showed when he first came up. The good news is that besides Jacoby Ellsbury and Brendan Ryan, the injury bug was avoided. Ellsbury should start on Opening Day, while it looks like Ryan won’t be available for the better part of April.
