Yankees third baseman Chase Headley made two outstanding defensive plays against the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium on May 9, 2015

Game 31 : The Yankees never threatened in their 6-2 loss to Baltimore at The Stadium this afternoon. Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen had them off balance with excellent command and changing location. It got interesting for a minute in the bottom of the 9th as the Yanks came within one batter of bringing the potential tying run to the plate.

Here’s the box score, full recap, and video highlights.

Orioles 6, Yankees 2

  • Chase Headley   One of very few New York highlights of the day came from the birthday-boy at third base. Actually two highlights, as he made a pair of diving stops on hard hit balls.

  • Chase Whitley   On the heels of turning in a pair of solid starts in place of Masahiro Tanaka, Whitley left a few pitches in the zone today and Baltimore showed no mercy, knocking a total of three home runs.

“I just made a couple mistakes and they made me pay. “It’s just one of those days. I felt pretty good out there. I battled a little bit. Guys made some good plays. We just didn’t get it done.” ‐ Chase Whitley  (Hat tip: LoHud)
