Brett Gardner drills a solo home run around the Pesky Pole in right field off Rick Porcello to extend the Yankees' lead to two runs at Fenway Park on September 1, 2015

Game 131 / 73-58 / 2nd / -1.5 GB : The Yankees lineup weathered a 13 strikeout performance by Boston starter Rick Porcello, managing to scratch out 3 runs while Yankee starter Michael Pineda and the usual suspects from the ‘pen combined to hold the Red Sox to only one. It was a had-to-happen, must-win, no-bout-a-doubt-it required victory, and the Bronx Bombers got it done. Their prize? Treading water in second place at 1.5 games back in the American League East, as the Blue Jays defeated the Cleveland Indians tonight, 5-3.

Here’s the box score, full recap, and video highlights.

  • Tex On Cruches   This is not looking good. The bone bruise is much worse than initially thought and don’t be surprised when you hear he’s done for the season. This is the last thing we need to happen right now, so fingers crossed for the best news possible!
